30 minutes or Less - movie review

To start with, this has to be one of the worst premises ever for a comedy, but Ben Stiller still helped produce it. Granted, this is no cool story like Zombieland. This story has some inept villains, a slacker who's a pizza delivery guy that has to get a pie out within 30 minutes or its free, and twins. Also its a story that happens in Grand Rapids.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of laughs. The F word gets used over and over. Yet, I'm sure the movie hit its target, the 17 year old male, but they might even be wise of this kind of comedy, too.

Jesse Eisenberg's character is hard to root for. He's in love with his (Aziz Ansari) roommate's twin sister, Kate(Dilshad Vadsaria who so happens to actually be older than Aziz in reality). Maybe. Of course, Jesse's character Nick is the one with the bomb strapped to him. And there is even less to want to watch with Danny McBride and Nick Swardson as the bad guys. Honestly, I've always wanted to watch them together in something, but this wasn't it. Perhaps I was hoping for a brighter script.

Mr. Comic Book Goes to the Movies asked Eisenberg recently :  The Facebook joke near the beginning of the film, was that added before or after the success of The Social Network?

Jesse Eisenberg: No, I thought of it because my character thinks of himself as some rogue person, but actually it's just out of bitterness since he has no friends. So I think he was the kind of guy who rejected social networking sites because they thought they were above it, when actually no one sent them a friend request (laughs). But it was not a joke about the movie. I actually cringe to think it may induce laughter. I kind of find it obnoxious. The Social Network hadn't come out yet, and Facebook is like mentioning the telephone today.

Well, he doesn't have to cringe much.  This is one of those films that will get watched. Royalties will multiply all the way to Comedy Central someday when one can catch it several times a day.

STORYLINE: Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else...

WHY TO BOYCOTT THIS FILM

Because that actually happened in real life. Only Brian Wells, a Pennsylvania pizza man who was put in the exact same scenario but died when the bomb detonated. Its not funny to make fun of someones death. -The reckless
